Mid-Atlantic cycling powerhouse holds training camp with new youth development team in Williamsburg, VA on March 9-11.
Williamsburg, VA — 8 March 2018 — With multiple world and national champions returning to the team in 2018, Team Beyer Auto will officially begin its 2018 racing season with a 3-day training camp in Williamsburg, Virginia. While the team has held training camps as a regular part of its program for many years, it is returning to Williamsburg for only the second time to take advantage of the fair weather and great roads, which allow the national-class riders to prepare perfectly for their upcoming race season. In addition to the approximately 20 members of Team Beyer Auto Racing Team, for the first time the training camp will include the DC Velo Development Cycling Team, which supports promising Mid-Atlantic junior racers aiming to continue their progress towards becoming national and world-class competitors.
“Our training camps have always been key for us to gather and bond as a team at the beginning of the racing season, preparing us to execute on the teamwork required to be successful at the highest level of the sport throughout the year. Williamsburg provides an ideal venue for us to continue that tradition,” said Mark Sommers, president of Team Beyer Auto and himself a past world champion. “Growing the sport is an integral value of our team, so we’re also looking forward to working this year with the promising young juniors that are part of the new DC Velo Development Cycling Team.”
Also new for 2018, the team will benefit from expert support by team sponsor Conte’s Bike Shop, a nationally-recognized, family owned and operated bicycle shop with a rich history in Virginia. Founded in Newport News in 1957, Conte’s has 13 locations in VA, DC and Florida, including stores in Richmond, Newport News, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake and Williamsburg.
“We’re thrilled to be a part of the Team Beyer Auto Cycling team, to support their training camp, and especially excited to help with the development of the next generation of young athletes, who demonstrate the tremendous promise of not just racing, but cycling as a fun way to enjoy the outdoors and stay healthy,” said Fran Lenahan, Store Manager of Conte’s Bike shop in Williamsburg. “Conte’s Bikes works to grow the sport of cycling in many ways. Engaging with elite athletes, who are themselves looking to increase participation in the sport, is a great way to highlight how to have fun and stay healthy by riding bikes.”
